Earthqualizer Conducted Training to Support the Implementation of AEP Recovery Plan
On 28 May 2024, the Earthqualizer Foundation conducted training for stakeholders of the Anglo-Eastern Plantations Group on the recovery plan. Previously, in 2019, AEP decided to take responsibility for recovery activities as a commitment to the No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE) policy by implementing a recovery plan in Sinar Pagi Village, North Seluma District, Seluma Regency, for 25 years, focusing on social forestry. This training included a presentation session by the resource person, followed by a two-way discussion between the resource person and the training participants.
The training took place at the Executive Quarters of PT Mitra Puding Mas, located in North Bengkulu Regency, which is one of the subsidiaries of the Anglo-Eastern Plantation Group. The training was attended by key stakeholders of AEP, including the sustainability team, agronomists, managers, as well as senior assistants and assistant managers from six AEP Group subsidiaries and mills located in North Bengkulu Regency and Muko-Muko Regency. These subsidiaries are PT Mitra Puding Mas, PT Alno Air Ikan Estet, PT Alno Sapta Buana, PT Alno Pangeran, and PT Semindo.
This activity was carried out as part of AEP's commitment as a No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE) company for its supply chain. AEP Group CEO, Budi Purwanto, also attended and opened this training activity, expressing appreciation and high hopes that the implementation of the recovery plan carried out by AEP can proceed smoothly and provide benefits to the community and the environment. Prior to the presentation, as an introduction, AEP's Senior Manager of Sustainability and Risk Management, Balintang Simanjutak, explained AEP Group's sustainability policy and the reasons behind AEP's recovery obligations, as well as the essence of the day's training.
In this training, Eka Kurnia, the Community Forest Manager of the Earthqualizer Group, explained to the participants about the NDPE Policy and Recovery Plan, as well as the Co-Management Agreement. Eka discussed the liabilities arising from the clearing of land by oil palm companies in Indonesia, highlighting the need for NDPE's commitment to control land-clearing activities, including the Re-entry Protocol, which involves the implementation of a recovery plan. Eka also detailed Earthqualizer's journey and direct involvement in assisting recovery plan programs so far.
On the same occasion, Riza Harijazudin, the person in charge of AEP's recovery plan program from Earthqualizer, explained social forestry, including its flow, implementation scheme, and the goals of the Indonesian government, as well as an overview of AEP's recovery plan. Additionally, the training participants were informed about how to plan, implement, monitor, evaluate, and collaboratively learn for the future of the recovery plan program.
This training activity mainly aimed to provide participants with an understanding of global market sustainability policies and AEP's sustainability policy, specifically the recovery program plan and social forestry as a recovery program scheme. It is hoped that each stakeholder present will gain an understanding of AEP's recovery plan activities, particularly regarding the monitoring, evaluation, and learning plans that will be carried out with the community for the recovery program.
